"Twist" Stamping: Add Texture to your Cards and Layouts

While this technique was first shown with the March 2002 Stamp of the Month (SOM)- Go Fly Kites, you can use it with other stamps, too.   This card also features our Scrapbook Kids TM templates.

Twist Stamping:

Close To My Heart Twist Stamping Step 1

For twist stamping you need to choose 2 stamps: 1) a larger, solid stamp, and 2) a small stamp (solid or line-image) to add texture.  In this example we are using the large solid kite shape and the kite "bow" from the March SOM, Let's Go Fly Kites.

Start by inking up the kite stamp in a light color ink, such as Fawn Exclusive Ink TM .  Set the kite stamp face-up on your table.

Next, ink up the kite bow in a darker color ink, such as True Teal Exclusive Ink TM.  As shown in the above photo, press the inked bow gently onto the inked kite stamp.  Twist slightly, about 45-90 degrees.  Re-ink the bow stamp and repeat this process to cover the entire surface of the kite stamp, allowing the twists to overlap slightly.

Stamp the kite onto white cardstock and you'll have a beautiful design.  I used a .05 Black My Legacy Writer® to outline the kite and draw the details.

Have fun with this technique!  You can use it to texturize any solid stamp, including frame stamps for your scrapbook layouts.  I've had good luck using all kinds of small stamps for texture, such as tiny pine sprigs and other shapes.  Experiment and have fun!
