Scrapbooking Heritage or Antique Photos- Idea #2

Older, antique, or heritage photos can be a challenge to scrapbook for a number of reasons, including that they are usually one-of-a-kind (ie: you don't have the negatives so you don't want to ruin them!), and are either black-and-white or have that sepia (brownish) tint to them.  This month, I want to share an beautiful yet simple way to scrapbook black-and-white photos (though it works with sepia, too).  For more ideas for scrapbooking older photos, check out the February 2003 Idea of the Month.

close to my heart scrapbook layout idea with black and white photo

Black-and-white photos look very elegant in layouts such as the one above.  Just use Close To My Heart® Black Cardstock as a base, and layer on top of it a piece of our beautiful  Close To My Heart® Fleur des Jardines White-on-White Vellum Background/Texture Paper.  This paper comes in several lovely patterns that add subtle textures to your layouts.  Matte your photos and journaling blocks on more black and/or white cardstock and you're done!  You could do an entire heritage scrapbook album in this theme.  And I just love how easy it is!

It can be a bit tricky to mount vellum without having the adhesive show through.  You have a few choices:

bulletIn the layout above, I've used a Slot Corner Punch on the black cardstock- it creates slots that hold the vellum in place  (by the way, using a Slot Corner Punch is a great way to mount your photos without putting adhesive on these one-of-a-kind pictures).  Cut the vellum so it is  1/2" smaller than your page.  This leaves a 1/4" border all around, and allows the vellum piece to fit correctly into the slots.
bulletUse our Close To My Heart® Glue Pen to adhere the vellum.  This glue does not show through.
bulletPut your adhesive under the patterned part of the vellum so it won't show through as much, and/or adhere the vellum where you plan to place photos... the photos will cover up the adhesive.
