Idea of the Month Hat Box Card
Here's the perfect card for Mother's Day! Let your imagination go wild and decorate this card to be as cute or as elegant as you'd like. The "lid" of the box even opens so you can stamp a message inside! CLICK HERE to print out the pattern for this project and see below for step-by-step instructions. Step 1: Cut and Score Pattern Pieces
Print out the pattern (click on the link above to get it) and trace the card pieces onto your choice of cardstock. Trace the 2 mask pieces onto thin scrap paper, such as computer paper. Cut out. Score the back panel as shown on the pattern. Begin with the box lid and back panel (scored) as shown above. Step 2: Decorate the Hat Box Lid
Decorating the hat box can be done with any kind of stamps you'd like! Long border stamps make nice stripes, and tiny flowers make darling borders. Here I am using our Small Stripe Stencil instead of stamps. Use the "Mask for the Upper Portion of Hat Box Lid" and place it on top of the lid piece. Use a stamp to make an up-and-down design onto the bottom of the lid, or stamp a floral border or other design along the edge. Here I sponged vertical stripes using the stencil, ink pad and a round sponge. Now mask the bottom of the hat box lid so you can stamp the upper portion of the lid. Notice how I've place the Small Stripe Stencil on an angle, which makes the lid look 3-dimensional:
Your finished lid should look something like this:
Step 3: Assemble the Box
Place the decorated hat box lid upside down onto the table, and lay the back panel on top of the lid approximately as shown. Apply adhesive ONLY to the flap on the back panel, and gently press the panel down to adhere both pieces. Note: Adhere gently at first until you are sure of placement. Check placement by closing the lid, adjust position as necessary and trim edges as needed. Now all you need to do is decorate the front panel and glue it in place! Add a cute bow, buttons, flowers, lace, or any other embellishments you'd like. Happy stamping!
