Idea of the Month

Envelope Template Shaker Card

The envelope template (Z526) is a fun tool, and it does more than make envelopes!  This month  we're going to use it to make a cute shaker card to fill with candy or confetti, just in time for Easter or spring.  Say goodbye to foam core and double-stick tape!

Step 1

Envelope Card: Step 1

Trace the envelope template onto the back of a piece of cardstock.  For this project, I like to use glossy cardstock, but any will do.  This template fits just right on an 8-1/2 x 11" piece of cardstock.  Cut out.

Step 2

Envelope Card: Step 2

Crease each of the flaps to define the center stamping area.  Stamp an image towards the lower right corner (I've used a bunny).  Place an oval stencil in the center, slightly overlapping the bunny, and lightly trace the oval shape onto the cardstock.  Using an exacto knife, cut out the center of the oval, trimming around the bunny where necessary.

Step 3

Envelope Card: Step 3

Color the bunny as desired, and add stamped grass, clouds, sun, etc, plus a message in the upper left or right corner.  Mount a piece of clear plastic behind the oval (even a piece cut from a report cover or transparency works fine).  Fold in and glue the 2 larger flaps, then the bottom flap.  Fill card with candy or confetti and glue the final flap.  Too cute!  You can stamp a message on the inside, too, if you'd like (it works best to stamp your inside message on a separate piece of cardstock and slide it into the envelope; otherwise you will be trying to stamp on the flaps where they overlap).  NOTE: pastel M&M's work great for this, particularly when you color the bunny in matching pastels!
